MEGAN KIMMEL April 12, 1980 – June 10, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the death of Megan Kimmel, who died by suicide on June 10, 2026, at the age of 46.
Megan was born on April 12, 1980, and grew up in Denver, Colorado.
Throughout her life she was drawn to adventure, challenge, and the natural world. She eventually made her home in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, where she built deep friendships and became an integral part of the Ridgway community she loved.
Megan lived life boldly. She was known for her adventurous spirit, curiosity, independence, generosity, and deep capacity for connection. Whether exploring mountain trails, traveling to distant places, sharing stories with friends, or simply showing up for someone who needed support, Megan brought passion and sincerity to everything she did.
An accomplished mountain runner, Megan earned international recognition through her performances in some of the world's most demanding mountain races. Yet those closest to her knew that her achievements were only one part of who she was. She was also an entrepreneur, a business owner, a healer, and a lifelong seeker of growth and understanding.
Through her work at Rolfing Ridgway, she helped countless people move through pain, reconnect with their bodies, and improve their quality of life.
Megan loved the mountains not only for their beauty and challenge, but for the freedom, perspective, and joy they brought to her life. She inspired many through her courage, determination, and willingness to pursue a life guided by passion rather than convention.
She was preceded in death by her father, Neil Kimmel.
Megan is survived by her mother, Alanna Kimmel; her sister, Shannon Mika and husband Scott, and their sons Tyler, Alex, and Carter; her sister Erin Kimmel and husband Simon Hoskins, and their children Kota and Zadie; her brother Ryan Kimmel and partner Courtney Kuhlen; and a large extended family, chosen family, and community of friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
The loss of Megan leaves an immeasurable void. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, fierce independence, compassionate heart, quick smile, and the countless ways she touched the lives of others.
Memorial services are being planned both in Ridgway and along Colorado's Front Range. Details will be shared as they become available. Memorial funds and charitable initiatives honoring Megan's life and legacy are also being established.
The family invites all who knew and loved Megan to share stories, photographs, and memories. In the days, years, and adventures ahead, may we carry forward the qualities Megan embodied so fully: courage, curiosity, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder of being alive.
