CDOT purchased 14.86 acres on the Shrine Hillside for $1.2 million dollars at the end of September

On September 29th, 2026, CDOT (Colorado Department of Transportation) closed on 14.86 acres of land on Shrine Hill just off County Road 6 for $1.2 million dollars, also known as Shrine Hill Road, which runs right through the purchased property.
If approved, Valley Range Energy Park would have the capacity to supply 40% of peak demand throughout the co-op partnership service area. Valley Range goes before permitting boards in Montezuma Couty this fall.
Local retail sales in Durango grew just 0.3% over the past three years, while online shopping increased 24%, according to a presentation by Pioneer Development Co. (Jerry McBride Durango Herald file)
