And so it goes… A friend to many and beloved by family, Everett D. Lyons, Jr, age 82, passed away peacefully February 10, 2026 at Good Samaritan Society in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
He was born August 24, 1943, in Peoria, Illinois, son of the late Everett and Mildred (Welch) Lyons.
Everett earned his bachelor’s degree at St. Ambrose College and his masters at Arizona State University, both in social work. He served his country in the United States Army for 2 years, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War as a medic, having great adventures with his first wife Mary. He retired from Zeller Mental Health Hospital in Peoria as Director of Social Work after a career dedicated to compassion and care for the mentally ill.
Everett was an avid athlete and loved to challenge himself, whether by running, cycling, hiking, or shooting hoops, often sharing those passions with family and many friends over the years. He loved to work hard, tell a good story, share a beer and have a good laugh, listen to good music and sing off key. He did his best to help others throughout his life, caring for Margie through her illness, and kept his sense of humor and love for people til the end, often telling his caregivers they were beautiful.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; loving son, Nathan Lyons of Chicago; two step-daughters, Jennifer (Bill) Welsh of Minneapolis, and Jill (Buck) Thomas of Champaign, Illinois; and five grandchildren who adored him— Jack (Kaeli), Josie, George, Will, and Henry.
Family will gather in Silverton, Colorado, at the Hillside Cemetery, later this summer to honor Everett, happy knowing he’s resting at peace in the mountains, surrounded by aspen trees in the beautiful place that he and Margie loved so dearly.
So fill to me the parting glass And drink a health whate’er befalls Then gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be to you all.
