Trash Talk Online Spurs Debate about Trash Cans Around Town

This summer’s social media debate has become trash cans downtown and the camp dumpster that used to be outside the Silverton Transfer Station. In years past, there have been online flair-ups over fire bans, OHVs, wetlands, the economy, housing, the accidental killing of the mama bear, and now trash.

Jun 6, 2025 Memorial Day has come and gone, and the San Juan Mountains Association (SJMA) field crews are out in full force. The unofficial start of summer is upon us, and we have already seen an uptick in visitors to our public lands.

CDOT June Traffic Update

Since starting work on the US 550 Rockfall Mitigation and Wall Replacement project on May 12, the contractor has completed clearing and grubbing and tree removal near the Deer Creek Trailhead (Mile Point 59.3).

20 Years Ago June 17, 2005 Jerry Hoffer is Silverton’s new representative on the San Miguel Power Association Board of Directors. Hoffer won the mail-in ballot election by a substantial margin over incumbent Steve Fearn. Hoffer garnered 115 votes to Fearn’s 55.
