Robert “Pat” Lafferty, long time resident of Silverton passed away May 28, 2022. Pat didn’t want acknowledgement of his passing but many here will want to know and will miss his sense of humor and gentle nature. Rest in peace Pat.

Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour Turns 30!

One of the oldest tourist businesses in Silverton, The Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this July. The company was formed in 1991 by Bill Jones, Jim Melcher, Nolan Maclain, and Bob Travis. Bill guided the first tour in July 1992 and is the current owner operator.

20 years ago June 20, 2002 The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad announced late Wednesday it will be voluntarily abbreviating service. Effective immediately the train will run two steam train trips to Hermosa from Durango at a reduced fare.

The road to Clear Lake was recently closed, by federal agencies with the assistance of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, due to motor vehicle users traveling off trail to avoid a snow pile on the road that has not quite melted out.
