4th of July celebration was a BLAST!

Town of Silverton’s 4th of July festivities this year were family friendly, and the town was once again packed with longtime locals and visitors alike. The day started off with the revival of the Silverton Blue Ribbon Fun Run 5k & 10k with about 130 runners and plenty of spectators.

130 YEARS AGO From the June 25, 1892 edition of the Silverton Standard: EUREKA HAS NOT BURNED DOWN. It was reported on Wednesday that Eureka was burned down. For about an hour it was impossible to get telephone communication.

Looking Back

20 years ago June 27, 2002 Some business people headed to the bar. Others laid off workers and put closed signs up in their windows. But most said they understood the need to suspend train service from Durango to Silverton.

Upcoming • Colorado Department of Health will be having a Food Handler safety class on Monday June 6th in the SJDA Co-work shared space located in the basement of the Grand Imperial Hotel. Spanish class from 8:30-10:00am and an English class from 5:00-6:30pm. Please contact SJCPH for any questions.

Farmers Market Back for its 7th Year in New Central Location

Mark your calendars, Tuesday July 5th kicks off the weekly Tuesday Farmers Market. This year the market will be at Harmony Park, a brand new central location which promises to deliver higher traffic due to better visibility for community members and visitors alike.

Battle of the Badges Blood Drive Comes to Silverton

The Battle of the Badges blood drive in Silverton will be held on July 19th and 20th this year at the Kendall Mountain Recreation Center. The battles began 12 years ago. A female officer in Albuquerque was shot several times and it took over 100 units of blood to save her life!
