From the April 10, 1897 edition of the Silverton Standard: STRANGE LIGHT REPORTED OVER SILVER LAKE MINE. From several gentlemen of veracity, we learn that at about 9 o’clock Sunday evening flashes of a reddish light were seen in the sky hovering over the vicinity of the Silver Lake mine.

Easter Egg Hunt in Silverton

The Easter Egg hunt is back, but what happened to Spring? Though some of the lower lands might have green grass poking through the earth, Silverton is still covered in a blanket of white. In years past, the hunt took place on the massive lawn at the courthouse.

Mudslide Closes Red Mountain On Monday, April 10, 2023, a mudslide closed Highway 550 at mile point 78, 7 miles north of Silverton. This is the latest of closures, but the first in 2023 caused by mud instead of snow. Teams removed the muck quickly, and the road was opened by 10:30 pm that night.

Since the last citizen vote on OHV’s that reversed the ordinance which allowed them access into the town limits of Silverton, there have been two more citizen petitions to put the topic back onto the ballots turned into the Town of Silverton, and we dug into what is happening with those.
