Wednesday 21.2 degrees at 7am. Clear overhead with a strong north-northwest wind kicking up snow along ridgelines. Trees in motion and valley floor soon thereafter. Cold wind all day. 37.2 degree high. Thursday 21.3 degrees clear and close to calm. Above snow blowing above timberline.

More Snow Than Anywhere!

The April Fool’s Day Snowstorm was absolutely amazing! Right here in the polar hamlet of Silverton we had more snow than anywhere else in the San Juan region by far! 7.6 inches worth which had .46 water content and melted with the heat of the sun coming up, a street grid partially dried out front!

Letter from the Editor: Stepping Back but Still Around

Hi Silverton. I’m now writing to you from a wet, spring snow, which marks my third season as the editor. I did not expect to be writing a letter like this so soon after taking the position but this will be my last paper as the editor of The Silverton Standard.

Wednesday 18.4° at 7am with ridge top wind (North Northeast) and snow plumes out the peaks. Trees in motion valley floor morning and afternoon. Clearly the intermittent clouds. 35.9° high. Thursday 9.1° with more blowing snow above Timberline. Gusty wind valley floor during the morning.

LOVING LIFE!

Wednesday 7am 2.3 degrees above zero. Tiny flakes falling and .3 inches measured. Up canyon snow blowing. Intensifying late morning into the afternoon. Then, blue patches with cumulus clouds out of the north northwest and a 24.9 degree high. Thursday 14.3 degrees overnight.

Reach Out!

Make new friends but keep the old one is silver and the others gold. We all learn this in small kid time. What really matters is to apply this approach throughout our lives.

It was with great shock on the passing of Mark Esper. I was born and raised in Silverton, graduated in 1954 from Silverton high school and left after I graduated from the Colorado State University. I still return to my hometown every chance I get.
