Dear Editor

Last week my brothers, sisters, several other relatives, and I traveled to Silverton to attend the burial of our brother and uncle, Mark Esper. We were astonished at the warm reception we received from the citizens of Silverton.

Flying Dust!

Wednesday 21.3 degrees at 7am with new snow below timberline. Light afternoon flurries. Cumulus and blue with chilly wind. High of 41.7 degrees. Thursday 19.9 degrees clear with a northeast breeze. A few cumulus clouds in the morning. Clearing into the afternoon. A nice day with a 59.1 degree high.

The Winds of Change

Wednesday - 27.1degrees at 7am with blue and mid-level clouds which produced graupel showers 15 minutes later! Moderate up canyon breeze and gradual afternoon clearing and a 57.3 degree high. Thursday-21.3 low clear still with a bit of cirrus clouds out of the northwest soon after.

Spring Is Provisional

Wednesday 29.6 degrees and nearly still with high cirrus during the morning and a moderate up canyon breeze. A pleasant 59.9 degree high. Thursday 23.3 degrees clear and close to calm early than a growing up canyon breeze. Nearly cloudless day with our highest high so far at 61.7 degrees.

Dear Editor, Will officials please stop saying the bathrooms on Blaire st. are “for the community” when they are so clearly “for the train”? As the $1,000,000 price tag continues to climb, maybe Al Harper and his son John could pitch in.

Wind Season!

We often refer to the season that follows Winter as Mud Season. Lately, that restless element would have us rename it as being Wind Season! Snow is about gone in town and on sunbaked windswept slopes surrounding us.

Springtime?

Wednesday 21.2 degrees at 7am. Clear overhead with a strong north-northwest wind kicking up snow along ridgelines. Trees in motion and valley floor soon thereafter. Cold wind all day. 37.2 degree high. Thursday 21.3 degrees clear and close to calm. Above snow blowing above timberline.

More Snow Than Anywhere!

The April Fool’s Day Snowstorm was absolutely amazing! Right here in the polar hamlet of Silverton we had more snow than anywhere else in the San Juan region by far! 7.6 inches worth which had .46 water content and melted with the heat of the sun coming up, a street grid partially dried out front!

Letter from the Editor: Stepping Back but Still Around

Hi Silverton. I’m now writing to you from a wet, spring snow, which marks my third season as the editor. I did not expect to be writing a letter like this so soon after taking the position but this will be my last paper as the editor of The Silverton Standard.

Spring Snow

Wednesday 18.4° at 7am with ridge top wind (North Northeast) and snow plumes out the peaks. Trees in motion valley floor morning and afternoon. Clearly the intermittent clouds. 35.9° high. Thursday 9.1° with more blowing snow above Timberline. Gusty wind valley floor during the morning.
