Letter to the editor: It was with great pleasure and excitement that I followed the arrival of the 2 fourplexes and single-family affordable units into Silverton several weeks ago.

You have all accomplished so much over the past four and a half years—it’s not me, it’s you! I just facilitated the process. Your dedication made it possible to complete the Master Plan and the Land Use Code.

Joys Of a Warm Autumn Spell

Life can be painful and absurd. Life can also be laughable and ridiculous. How you choose to see it is everything. Do the things that matter to you in life make your heart flutter? Yes or no. There is an either /or to this simple binary question.

Twig Time

Bare branches and the last of the snowbirds heading out to warmer places are a sure sign that October ends and November is finally here. Mixed feelings for some of us this time of year when we really don't want to say goodbye to our summer friends and say hello to ever chillier weather.

Over by the depot

Over by the depot, we are now in the time of 10 o'clock sun. Tuesday morning at that hour, we are feeling decidedly Polar Hamlet! Of coursenothing like things to come! All but a few aspens have shed their leaves for the season.

Wind And Storm

Leaves were in their glory through Thursday- perhaps into Friday in many locations. The winds of change became our reality that night and with great intensity during most of Saturday. However, there are plenty of aspen leaves holding on- so get out there while they are still with us!

Having Fun With The Weather

Saturday, we unofficially transitioned from autumn to fall. This assessment was determined because this is the day that leaves began to tumble down and carpet the forest floor. However, there are plenty more where they came from, and most are still hanging on while changing color magnificently!

Your friend Freddie arrived in Silverton on the last day of his 36th year back in 1984. My first birthday present was discovering where my true home was to be. Here I am 42 years on- still going strong!

Labor Day Weekend was very busy with delightful weather

mazingly -we ended A up with an additional .60 for rainfall which brings us up to .80 for this exceptionally otherwise dry and hot month of August 2025. We are truly grateful! Labor Day weekend was busy in town and at the Mayflower Mill plus out in the backcountry.

Finally Real Summer Weather In The San Juans!

O ur current heat wave began this previous Monday with the highest recorded temperature of the season- which was best during each of the next 4 days this weather week. Fortunately, starting late Friday afternoon things began to cool down. This pattern has been our new story ever since.
