MYTH #1: Bears are active only in the evening and at night.

FALSE: Bears can be active for up to 20 hours a day, particularly during hyperphagia, the period when bears begin eating extensively, usually occurring as fall sets in. Bears need to bulk up for the long months of hibernation, gaining several pounds per day.

This year, CPW has observed bears entering hyperphagia as early as June.
