A San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputy shot and killed a man in self-defense Nov. 6 following a high-speed pursuit that began in Ridgway and ended near Cascade Creek alongside Highway 550. Undersheriff Mike McQueen fatally shot Manuel Maestas in the head after Maestas aimed a shotgun at him at close range.
