Last Sunday, June 22nd, at around 11 am, there was a wildfire that started between mile markers 87 & 88 on Highway 550 heading North to Ouray near the snow shed. The fire is called the Snow Shed Fire, and the cause of the fire is now known to be “human caused” according to the Ouray County Sheriff’s Department, but still under investigation as of Tuesday.
