From the May 9, 1891 edition of the Silverton Standard: FORGERY SUSPECT ESCAPES FROM JAIL Morgan, the man under arrest in the county jail for forgery, made his escape on Saturday evening. He made a hole in the masonry, under the window, about four inches long and eighteen inches wide.
Sheriff May sent men to Durango and Ouray but nothing has been heard of him.
