Monsoon Season Brings Flash Flooding, Lightning, and Mudslides

Just as Silverton prepared to lift the fire restrictions in the region, monsoon brought lightning strikes, flash floods, and mudslides very close to home.

Around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday evening, the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department received a call about a plume of smoke. Lightning had struck in Blair Gulch, near Aspen Town. 2 teams responded to the call, one from the North and one from the South…
