The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is next Saturday (5/24), and US 550 will CLOSE for 6 hours between Purgatory and Silverton (7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.). Spectators and Support Teams: Allow ample travel time to make it past Purgatory before the closure begins, leaving Durango no later than 6:45 a.m.

DURANGO: • The Durango Police Department had to corral, catch, and detain a kangaroo that was on the loose for the second time in a downtown neighborhood. The first time the police department caught the unusual “pet”, the kangaroo was a baby and much smaller than it is now.

Silverton School parent Alice Rico spearheaded the efforts to throw the six graduating seniors a community party this past weekend at the Kendall Mountain community center. She said, “Honestly, just the fact that with this being a small town, it is great to see when I presented the parents and Miss B with the idea of this celebration, we all came together to pull it off. 130 years ago From the May 25, 1895 edition of the Silverton Standard: EUREKA BRANCH STARTS HAULING FREIGHT NEXT WEEK. Next week the Eureka branch of the Silverton railroad will commence hauling freight over the line. At present the North Star bridge will be the end of the line.
