US 550 Red Mountain Retaining Wall & Tunnel Repair

Project OverviewThe Colorado Department of Transportation and contracting partner Rock & Co. will begin road and tunnel repairs on US Highway 550 Red Mountain Pass beginning July 20. The work will take place at two locations just south of Ouray.A retaining wall at Mile Point 88.

Traffic UpdateIn July, crews will start work at the Coal Bank location (Mile Point 56.9), just north of Engineer Mountain Trailhead. Motorists should continue to plan for full stops and delays of up to 20 minutes throughout the project.

With low water levels and water temperatures consistently rising near 71 degrees, Colorado Parks and Wildlife has enacted a voluntary afternoon fishing closure for the Animas River through Durango, the San Juan River through Pagosa Springs, and the Dolores River below McPhee Dam.
