SJC Roads & Bridge Crew Made Major Repairs to County Road

The San Juan County Roads and Bridge crew undertook a road rebuild on Arrastra Gulch off SJC Road 52, also known as Little Giant Basin Road (SJC Road 21A). Little Giant Basin Road is a narrow, rocky former mule trail for the mines.

It was mid-day at 8,500 feet amidst the Ponderosa and Oak scrub of Top of the Pines (TOP) Preserve outside Ridgway, CO. The grasses, dried and aromatic, reminded me of chaparral. Luckily, I had been sitting contently in the shade for a good length of time. I couldn’t tell you how long.
