San Juan County Colorado Reduced to Stage 1 Fire Restriction as of Saturday August 1, 2026

San Juan County, Colorado, Silverton, and the US Forest Service (San Juan National Forest) have reduced Fire Restrictions to Stage 1, which means wood fires are allowed in metal fire rings, but not rock or dirt fire rings.

Two Motorcycles Collided on Coal Bank Last Week, Resulting in One Fatality

Last Wednesday around 2 pm, there was a collision between two motorcycles, one headed southbound on Highway 550 and one headed northbound at mile marker 55. 53-year-old Jeff Kiraly of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away at the scene of the motorcycle accident.
