Silverton Mountain Officially Opens While Kendall Mountain is Waiting for Snow

Silverton Mountain officially opened the weekend between Christmas and New Year's, and there are now skiers wandering around town. Kendall Mountain Ski Area is still awaiting more snow, just like all of us locals are. With the late start of winter, the ice-skating rink is as popular as ever.

February 19, 1887 Silverton DemocratA snowslide came down Sultan Mountain Thursday morning and swept across the railroad track. The slide was about 200 yards wide and brought down trees and rocks, sweeping everything before it. It carried away part of the cabin occupied by Hugh and John E.
