On Saturday June 11th, the Silverton Chamber of Commerce sent out communications that the DSNGRR would not run operations to Silverton on Sunday June 11th and Monday June 12th due to the San Juan National Forest office’s Industrial Fire Precaution Levels.

70 YEARS AGO From the June 6, 1952 edition of the Silverton Standard & the Miner: DURANGO NEWSPAPER SOLD. The Durango News and the Durango Herald Democrat were sold this week to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ballantine, Jr., of Minneapolis, Minn. The new owners will continue to operate both newspapers.
