130 YEARS AGO From the February 11, 1893 edition of the Silverton Standard: MEN HAUL IN GEAR ON TOBAGGONS. Last Sunday, W.H. Crooke sent fourteen men down through the canon to Elk Park with toboggans to haul up about a ton of machinery that had been left there by the trainmen.

20 years ago February 7, 2003 1980s Skiing is the theme of the Feb. 8-10 winter celebration It was a time when the mines in Silverton were humming, big hair bands ruled, MTV was the newest sensation, and the nation’s first 24hour television news network, CNN, was just getting started.

The Town of Silverton’s annual SNOWSCAPE event is this weekend, starting Friday, February 10th, through Sunday, the 12th. This year’s theme is ROCKIN’ & ROLLIN’ and Friday starts with an at-your-home snow sculpture contest. The recent snow we have had will allow us to create something fun & BIG!

Wednesday-5.9 degrees above at 7:00 AM, with tiny snowflakes falling out of the gray fuzziness. Then the sky cleared off. 17.9 degrees high Thursday- negative 22.5 degrees, our lowest! Breeze out of the north later on. Just cold blue! 23.1 degree high Friday- negative 9.

Town of Silverton Moves Forward On Application For Housing Grant

On Monday night, the Town of Silverton Trustees held a special meeting to discuss moving forward on a housing grant application. The application would potentially give them financial access to start constructing on the proposed housing plan next to the Anvil housing development.
