After completing this year’s annual classification flights, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) saw elk in the Bears Ears (E-2) and White River (E-6) areas returning to the population objective range for the first time since the severe winter of 2022-23.

Our own Silverton local Kendall Mountain Ski Area’s hometown skier, Betsy Barney (age 11), competed in the Colorado U12 Championship giant slalom and slalom races March 14 & 15 at Powderhorn Ski Area just outside Grand Junction.

Spring Ski Season Ends Early

Although Silverton Mountain opened for their annual unguided ski season on March 17th, they announced the early closure of the ski area due to low snowpack last week. Unguided season lasted only two weeks this year and the Brewski event was their closing day celebration.
