The Joel Zucker Memorial Scholarship Fund is proud to announce the awarding of $39,000 to 13 students from Silverton and Lake City, each receiving $3000 to continue their post-secondary education.

The 4th of July week packed the Town of Silverton and the camp spots in the county for the entire holiday week.

150 Fourth of Julys in Silverton

The 150th Fourth of July lived up to previous celebrations in Silverton. It began with a family-centric parade, and the largest participant turnout for both the Blue Ribbon 5k and Ducky Derby. The night was capped by a better than ever firework show put on by the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department.

30 Years Ago July 7, 1994 Seventy-eight scrappy, iron willed and quite possibly insane runners have signed up this year for the third running of the Hardrock 100 race — 100 miles through some of the most difficult and beautiful terrain in the country.

135 YEARS AGO From the July 14, 1894 edition of the Silverton Standard: BIKE RACE HELD. On the evening of the fifth a bicycle race was matched between T. McKinney and W.H. Steel, who had raced the evening before, McKinney winning. The race was for $25 a side.

Fatal fall on Snowdon Peak

On the 4th of July in San Juan County, Jesse Filoteo, a 25-year-old man from Cookeville Tennessee was out on a day hike with 5 co-workers with the goal to summit Snowdon Peak which is just 11 miles southwest of Silverton and the trail is accessed from Andrew’s Lake.
