150 Fourth of Julys in Silverton

The 150th Fourth of July lived up to previous celebrations in Silverton. It began with a family-centric parade, and the largest participant turnout for both the Blue Ribbon 5k and Ducky Derby. The night was capped by a better than ever firework show put on by the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department.

135 YEARS AGO From the July 14, 1894 edition of the Silverton Standard: BIKE RACE HELD.
On the evening of the fifth a bicycle race was matched between T. McKinney and W.H.
Steel, who had raced the evening before, McKinney winning.
The race was for $25 a side.

Fatal fall on Snowdon Peak

On the 4th of July in San Juan County, Jesse Filoteo, a 25-year-old man from Cookeville Tennessee was out on a day hike with 5 co-workers with the goal to summit Snowdon Peak which is just 11 miles southwest of Silverton and the trail is accessed from Andrew’s Lake.
