From the August 2, 1946 Silverton Standard & the Miner: MEARS TOLL ROAD COACH IN FIESTA SHOW. The stage coach which carried travelers between Ouray and Silverton in the days of Otto Mears’ toll road will roll again in the Spanish Trails Fiesta parade at Durango two weeks hence, Aug.

Starting this past Monday, the monsoon tap turned back on. We received .92 in 7 days. Every afternoon cooled off most delightfully with rain chilled air. Water levels in the upper Animas changed constantly. Down below, the lower Animas is a rich, brown muddy river.
