Snowslides on Red Mountain

On March 6, 2025, a natural slide occurred at approximately 11:30 am on Red Mountain Pass near the Idarado Mine. One commercial box truck was struck by the slide. One small passenger vehicle attempted to drive through the slide, unsuccessfully. No injuries were reported.

Creature Feature: White-tailed Ptarmigan

White-tailed ptarmigan are a small, tubby-looking grouse. They are the only North American bird to live year-round in the high-elevation alpine tundra (though they move to lower elevations in response to weather and seasonal changes).
