Gary Bennett of Telluride sent in this photo of the July 12, 1953 dedication of the opening of Ophir Pass, with San Juan County and San Miguel County officials on hand. The pass had been closed for many years due to slides. It wasn’t until 60 years ago this summer that it was passable to motor vehicles.
