Last Wednesday, March 14th, San Juan County Search and Rescue received a distress call from a solo 61-year-old male backcountry skier with a hip injury at about 4:30 pm. The solo skier had cell phone service and called 911 to communicate directly with the SAR team that he could no longer ski down the slope or extricate himself from the Cascade Meadows area.
