The long-awaited Superfund designation for some 48-mining related sites in San Juan County will become official on Friday, the EPA announced on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
The announcement comes a little more than a year after the Aug. 5, 2015 Gold King Mine spill that highlighted the worsening acid-mine drainage problem in the Upper Animas River.
