This past week I had a chance meet up with Susan Haupert from Northern California who is the great-granddaughter of Harry Hatcher Smith, the founder of Silverton Standard Newspaper. H.H. Smith had started the San Juan Democrat in 1888 but changed its name to Silverton Standard when he partnered up with Snowden on November 2nd, 1889.
