Like a never-ending groundhog’s day, last week brought Silverton and San Juan County another round of sideways snowstorms and mountain pass closures. One difference in this March storm was the amount of moisture and water in the snowpack; it felt like shoveling concrete.
When there is high moisture content in the snowpack, it lends to a higher probability of avalanches running.
