Action by a Few, Sixty Years Ago, Lead to Our Top-Rated Museum.

In 1964, a group of interest ed citizens began promoting the idea of having a formal museum in the long unused 1902 county jail, located next to the courthouse. At the same time a formal organization to run such a museum was also discussed and by the end of 1964, papers had been filed to incorporate the San Juan County Historical Society.
