10 Years Ago May 27, 2010 A criminal investigation is being launched into the disappearance of personnel files at Silverton Town Hall. San Juan County Sheriff Sue Kurtz said on Wednesday, May 26, that she has been contacted by officials at Town Hall regarding the matter.

130 YEARS AGO From the May 30, 1890 edition of the Silverton Standard: A SAD ACCIDENT. A sad accident happened in Durango about five o’clock last evening. Bob Hurley, while coupling a box car to a baggage car, was crushed between them and killed instantly.

6 to graduate from high school Friday

Silverton High School graduation will be conducted Friday, May 15, from 4-6 p.m. Community members please congratulate the graduates at 6 p.m. At 6 p.m. there will be a victory drive down main street, courtesy of the fire department.

10 Years Ago May 13, 2010 Over on Blair Street, Mike Geryak has been tinkering with a demonstration model of a solar-powered street lamp with an old-fashioned look. He put much of it together from materials scavenged from the dump, and it looks pretty good.
