The bears are back

The lack of moisture this summer means fewer natural food sources for our local bear population, and bear activity in town is on the rise. In fact, one Silvertonian recently found an unwelcome ursine visitor snacking in his kitchen mid-day!

Way up yonder in the tundra ...

August 2020 got off to a definitely dry start. We had .01 on the2nd and only a trace on three occasions during our first full weather week. That’s the way it was Wednesday the 5th. We started out at 35.2 degrees then warmed up to 76.

COVID testing in San Juan County

To date, since May 4, San Juan County Public Health has performed 28 PCR diagnostic tests and 25 point of care antigen tests, (quick test result that has less validity and each test is sent to the state to confirm a negative result) for those with symptoms.

Five Years Ago July 23, 2015 The Silverton Northern Railroad Committee is working towards placing up to 300 feet of track this summer on the recently constructed grade near the Powerhouse. This stretch of track will serve as an interpretive center for the historic line.
