Sit Spot in the Ponderosa

It was mid-day at 8,500 feet amidst the Ponderosa and Oak scrub of Top of the Pines (TOP) Preserve outside Ridgway, CO. The grasses, dried and aromatic, reminded me of chaparral. Luckily, I had been sitting contently in the shade for a good length of time. I couldn’t tell you how long.

Silverton Local Athlete Billy Grimes finishes the PTL in France

Silverton local athlete Billy Grimes and his running partner, Donnie Haubert from Steamboat, competed as a two-person team the last week of August in the PTL race in Chamonix, France, during the UTMB week.

Fifty years! Where has the time gone?

Ironically, September 1975 and September 2025 share the same calendar configuration. Fifty years ago this Friday I arose early in our Wheaton, Illinois home and drove to O’Hare Airport. There I boarded a plane for Denver and the ultimate destination of Durango, Colorado.

To Our Community, As many of you know, my first “baby” was the Silverton Family Learning Center. It’s why I landed in Silverton over 16 years ago. It continues to be a big part of my life, but in a different way, as my daughters now get to take part in a high-quality, early childhood education.
