San Juan County Office of Emergency Management is asking locals to be prepared for this summer’s Wildfire season

As the winter months become milder, wildfire danger in our area becomes heightened. Office of Emergency Management is asking locals to be prepared for potential evacuation in the case of a wildfire. Each family should have a plan for all adults, children and pets going into this summer season.

Saturday’s first daily Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train excursion was a big hit with the locals

Saturday’s first train’s arrival felt more like a local get together and family affair. Many locals came out in Victorian or Western garb to greet the first season’s steam train coming up from Durango. Silverton truly put on a Step Back in Time Welcome for the train passengers.

San Juan National Forest firewood permits on sale beginning May 2nd

DURANGO, Colo., May 2, 2022 – The San Juan National Forest will begin selling permits to cut firewood this year at select retail outlets across the Forest starting May 2nd. Specific agency offices will offer permits for sale, utilizing established protocols and times listed below.
