Gator Fest Takes a Bite Out of Silverton

Last Wednesday was the start of the first annual Gator-Fest out at the Columbine Roadhouse that went through Sunday night. They featured live music, and a Cajun food truck with the finale being the burning of an 11-foot Gator crafted out of wood by Lucky and John Sites.

Northern San Juan Great Old Broads Wilderness Butterfly Walk Join the Northern San Juan Great Old Broads for Wilderness on a butterfly walk with Carrie Krickbaum Monday August 8th from 1-3pm. They will meet at the Crystal Lake Reservoir Dam. The walk is relatively flat.

10 years ago Silverton youths’ bake sale July 28 to benefit Red Cross disaster aid The Silverton Youth Center members are launching a“Silverton Kids Care” project with a bake sale on Saturday, July 28. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Hall.

Silverton Northern Railroad 2021 Engine House Work Detailed by Workers

The Engine House work in 2021 was a continuation of the work started in the fall of 2020. This is being done under a grant from State Historical Fund (SHF) for the interior restoration.

Dear Members: As I write today we are experiencing another dry, windy day in the San Juan Mountains, but there is a promise of rain in the air, of course right before Cemetery Workday. As a member told me yesterday “that is what hats are for”. We will work in the rain, dancing happily in the drops.

Wednesday-39.2 degrees at 7 AM, cloudless with a gentle down canyon breeze. Cloud build with thunder and no rain! 78.4 degree high. Thursday- 41.5 degrees, general small cumulus which disappeared. Excellent cloud build nestling in gentle rain. 75.2 degree high Friday- 46.

Upcoming • Colorado Department of Health will be having a Food Handler safety class on Monday June 6th in the SJDA Co-work shared space located in the basement of the Grand Imperial Hotel. Spanish class from 8:30-10:00am and an English class from 5:00- 6:30pm.
