From the March 3, 1900 edition of the Silverton Standard: SEARCH CALLED OFF FOR SLIDE VICTIM.Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday thirty to forty men dug holes in the big snowslide near the Sampson mill in quest of the body of Louis Avi. The search was in vain and Wednesday evening work was suspended.

Five days of wind and storm with temperatures close to or down in the teens for highs and lows for two nights in that same range before plummeting into single then double digit below for two nights before returning to one below. This, my friends, is real San Juan weather!
